Whether you own an electric vehicle (EV) or are looking to purchase one, one of the biggest concerns for most drivers is charging.
Despite the benefit of owning an environmentally friendly vehicle or the cost effectiveness of not needing a gas, if your vehicle takes too long to charge, investing in an EV won’t worth it.
A level 2 charger needs a 240v outlet, which many new homes or new multi-unit homes and building standards require. In case you do not have 240v outlet, we will easily install one.
This concern can be addressed by purchasing a Level 2 (or better) charger to use instead of a standard Level 1 charger that typically comes with the vehicle.
Level 1 charger usually delivers about 1.4 kW to the vehicle, while Level 2 delivers anywhere from 6.2 to 6.7 kW. This makes level 2 charger much faster and more reliable. A Level charger will usually charge about 4 miles per hour, while Level 2 charger will usually deliver about 32 miles of driving per hour.
A Level 1 charger usually comes when you purchase the EV vehicle. It is the most common charger type. Typically, it’s just a cable that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet. A Level 1 charger usually delivers 1.4 kW of charge, providing 4 miles of driving range per hour of charging. That means it can take anywhere from 12 to 20 hours to fully charge a vehicle. This works if you plan to charge your vehicle over night, but if you plan to drive it more frequently this might not be a good solution for you.
Level 2 chargers deliver anywhere from 6.2 to 7.6 kW of charge. This is significantly faster than Level 1 charger and can provide an average of 32 miles of driving per hour. This means it will take 3 to 8 hours for a fully charged vehicle. A Level 2 EV charger type can be installed by an electrician or plugged into a 240v outlet. If you don’t have a 240v outlet, one can be easily installed.
Level 3 chargers (DC Fast Chargers) are the fastest EV charger type currently available. Level 3 chargers are capable of fully charging a battery within an hour. However, the faster the charger, the more electricity it uses, and Level 3 chargers aren’t supported by majority of homes and properties as they use too much electricity.
This type of chargers is being installed as part of the local infrastructure, often similar to gas stations (charging stations).
